FromSoftware is preparing to elevate the challenge of Elden Ring: Nightreign with the arrival of a new expansion, “Deep of Night,” scheduled to launch on September 11, 2025. Designed for players who have already conquered the treacherous Nightreign multiple times, this mode is billed as a grueling test of endurance and skill, offering escalating levels of difficulty that push the limits of even the most seasoned adventurers.
The new mode unfolds across five distinct depth levels, each introducing tougher enemies and riskier equipment. Items discovered within the depths will not only provide powerful new effects but also come with drawbacks that force players to weigh every strategic choice. Progression is irreversible, once players ascend to a higher depth, they cannot drop back down, ensuring that each step forward carries lasting consequence. For those who manage to overcome the first three depths, the game unlocks an endless battle mode, creating a gauntlet of relentless encounters that has no finish line, designed for those determined to test their limits without respite.
Progression through the depths is governed by a rating system reminiscent of Armored Core 6’s ranking mechanics. Each depth corresponds to a 999-point rating band, with Depth 1 spanning 0 to 999 points, Depth 2 from 1000 to 1999, and so on, culminating in Depth 5. Victories and defeats adjust a player’s score within these ranges, and advancement to higher depths depends on consistent performance. This system also extends to matchmaking, where players are paired with others of similar rank to maintain competitive balance. If matchmaking queues grow too long, the system will temporarily widen the pool, but skill-based pairing remains at its core.
With its blend of unforgiving enemies, strategic resource management, and structured progression, Deep of Night promises to deliver a new layer of challenge that transforms Nightreign’s cooperative roguelike experience into something even more intense. By adding an endless mode and a competitive ranking structure, FromSoftware is not only extending the game’s replayability but also reaffirming its reputation for crafting experiences that reward mastery and perseverance. When it launches on September 11, Deep of Night will stand as the ultimate proving ground for players who believe they have already tamed the darkness.
