NetEase Games has confirmed that Marvel Rivals, its free-to-play superhero team shooter, will arrive on PlayStation 4 on September 12, coinciding with the launch of Season 4, titled “Heart of the Dragon.” The move broadens the game’s reach to one of the most popular legacy consoles still in use, signaling NetEase’s intention to keep the title accessible to as wide an audience as possible.

Season 4 delivers a slate of new content, including a playable hero, widely rumored to be Angela, a new map, fresh gameplay modes, and sweeping balance changes with buffs and nerfs across the roster. Players can also look forward to the debut of Convergence, a new mode set to arrive shortly after the season begins, further diversifying the game’s competitive offerings.

Originally released on December 6, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Marvel Rivals has quickly established itself as one of the most-played third-person shooters on the market. By February 2025, the game had already surpassed 40 million registered players, a milestone that highlights its rapid adoption and staying power in a crowded multiplayer landscape.

The arrival of the PS4 version is notable given the industry trend of phasing out support for older hardware. With millions of active users still on the platform, the port allows NetEase to capture a sizable audience that might otherwise be left behind, while also giving the game a chance to sustain growth as it enters its second year.

With Season 4’s rollout, Marvel Rivals not only introduces new heroes and modes but also reaffirms its position as a rising force in competitive shooters. The combination of expanded platform access and content updates underscores NetEase’s strategy to maintain momentum and keep players engaged heading into the future.
