Electronic Arts has officially announced the long-rumored battle royale mode for Battlefield 6, set to enter closed testing this week through the Battlefield Labs platform. This mode aims to integrate the franchise’s signature elements, class-based squad play, vehicular combat, and environmental destruction, into the battle royale genre.
The mode will feature 100-player matches, organized into 25 squads of 4 players each, aligning with the traditional battle royale format. Players will have the option to bring their preferred class and gadgets into the match, allowing for strategic customization. In-match missions will offer rewards such as redeployments for fallen teammates, enhanced weaponry, and vehicle keys, potentially granting access to armored vehicles that can shift the battle’s momentum.
A distinctive feature of this battle royale mode is the NXC ring, a hazardous zone that inflicts instant death upon contact. Unlike traditional games where players can use the shrinking play area for tactical advantage, the NXC ring in Battlefield 6 is designed to force aggressive engagements by eliminating any player caught within it. The developers emphasized that there will be “no jumping in and out of it, no using it for cover, no walking through it, if you get caught in it, you are done.”
The game’s battle royale map has been constructed specifically for this mode, featuring a diverse array of tactical Points of Interest, each with unique layouts and themes to offer varied gameplay experiences. While the mode is not launching alongside the main game on October 10, 2025, EA has indicated that it will be available shortly after the game’s release.
As development progresses, EA and DICE are actively gathering player feedback through the Battlefield Labs playtests to refine and enhance the battle royale experience. This approach underscores the developers’ commitment to delivering a mode that resonates with the Battlefield community while introducing fresh dynamics to the battle royale genre.
