Sony is expected to hold a State of Play presentation at the end of September, and one of its highlights could be the long-awaited return of Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games. According to industry sources, a new trailer for the project has already been completed. If it does not premiere during Sony’s showcase, it is likely to appear later this year at The Game Awards.

Originally announced in September 2021, Marvel’s Wolverine has remained largely absent from the spotlight for the past four years. With little official information shared since its reveal, anticipation among fans has only grown. In December 2023, an attack on Insomniac by a ransomware group led to early test footage and development details leaking online, offering a brief look at gameplay and traversal before being swiftly removed from official platforms.

The game is being developed exclusively for PlayStation 5. Its writing team includes Mary Kenney, who previously worked on Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, alongside Walt Williams and Nick Folkman, the duo behind Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Initially directed by Brian Horton and Cameron Christian, the project saw a leadership change in mid-2024 when both stepped down from their roles.

The September State of Play is expected to follow the recent dedicated showcase for 007: First Light and continues Sony’s tradition of digital presentations that has been in place since 2019. Should Wolverine appear during the broadcast, it would mark the game’s first official showing since its announcement, potentially signaling the arrival of one of the PlayStation 5’s most anticipated exclusives in the coming years.
