The upcoming Ninja Gaiden 4, set to release on October 21, 2025, marks a significant evolution in the iconic action series. In a departure from tradition, the game is being developed entirely by PlatinumGames, with Team Ninja providing advisory support.

This collaboration was born out of necessity. Team Ninja, engaged with other projects like Rise of the Ronin, required external expertise to bring Ninja Gaiden 4 to fruition. PlatinumGames, renowned for titles such as Bayonetta and NieR: Automata, stepped in, offering their distinctive approach to action game design.

Yuji Nakao, director at PlatinumGames, emphasized the importance of staying true to the series’ roots while infusing new energy. “We wanted to inject PlatinumGames’ unique, stylish approach to action into Ninja Gaiden 4 while retaining the gameplay feel that longtime players expect from the series,” he stated. This vision led to the introduction of Yakumo, a new protagonist from the Raven Clan, who brings a fresh perspective to the game’s narrative.

The game’s setting is a reimagined, dystopian Tokyo, blending cyberpunk aesthetics with traditional Japanese elements. Players will navigate this world using Yakumo’s versatile combat abilities, including the innovative Bloodraven Form, which allows for dynamic transformations during battle.

Despite the shift in development leadership, Ryu Hayabusa, the series’ original protagonist, remains integral to the storyline. He serves as both a playable character and a benchmark for Yakumo’s growth, ensuring continuity for long-time fans.

The decision to have PlatinumGames lead development was a strategic one, aiming to revitalize the franchise while maintaining its core identity. The collaboration between PlatinumGames and Team Ninja has resulted in a game that honors the past while embracing the future, offering both nostalgia and innovation to players.

Ninja Gaiden 4 will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC, with a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, ensuring accessibility for a wide audience.
