The long-awaited pixel-art cyberpunk platformer Replaced has officially been given a release window of spring 2026, bringing clarity after several years of uncertainty. Game director Yura Zhdanovich confirmed the news in a development update, assuring fans that the team simply needs more time to polish the project and promising a final trailer with the exact date later this year, potentially during The Game Awards 2025.
Originally announced with a target launch in 2022 and a planned day-one release on Game Pass, Replaced has faced a series of delays. The project was first pushed to 2024, then to 2025, and now into 2026. These setbacks were not the result of creative failure but rather a combination of underestimated production timelines and the studio’s difficult relocation during the upheaval caused by the war in Ukraine.
Despite the extended wait, the game continues to generate excitement thanks to its striking presentation and gameplay. A recent showcase at Gamescom 2025 impressed audiences with its fluid combat system, which draws inspiration from the free-flowing combos of the Batman: Arkham series, while maintaining the atmospheric tension of cinematic platformers like Inside and Planet of Lana. The blend of hand-crafted pixel art and modern visual effects sets it apart from other indie titles in the genre.
The developers revealed that the game already features more than 600 unique animation clips, translating into thousands of painstakingly hand-drawn frames layered with custom visual effects. Every asset has been created without the use of AI, underscoring the studio’s commitment to craftsmanship and authenticity in an era when many studios lean on automation.
With its release window now set, Replaced enters the final stage of development. While fans will need to wait a little longer, the extended timeline may ultimately ensure that the game lives up to its ambitious vision, delivering a polished and memorable cyberpunk experience when it finally arrives in 2026.
